Million Dollar Winner

One player matched all five white balls to win $1 million. The winning ticket was purchased in Ohio and the player also played the Megaplier option, increasing their winnings to $3 million.

Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Five balls are drawn from a set of white balls numbered 1 through 75; the Mega ball is drawn from a set of balls numbered 1 through 15. The odds of winning the jackpot is 1 in 259 million.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states, plus the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands. Tickets cost $1 each.

Powerball Jackpot Still Rising

Meanwhile, the Saturday, July 30 Powerball jackpot now stands at $478 million, with a lump sum cash option of $330.6 million.

The game's last jackpot winner came on May 7, when a family from New Jersey won the $429.6 million grand prize. The game's biggest jackpot in history came earlier this year when players from Tennessee, California and Florida all won a share of a record-setting $1.6 billion jackpot.

The $478 million jackpot represents the fifth largest in Powerball history and overall the eighth largest in lottery history, slightly behind the $536 million won by a Mega Millions player earlier this month.
