Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are scheduled to come face-to-face for three prime time debates over the next several weeks, as their battle for the White House intensifies.

The two adversaries first clash on Sept. 26 on the campus of Hofstra University in Long Island, followed by an Oct. 9, showdown at Washington University. The final scheduled meeting between the major-party candidates is slated for Oct. 19, on the campus of the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.

All the 90-minute debates will be broadcast live on C-SPAN, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CNN, Fox News and MSNBC, beginning at 9 p.m. EST. The moderators have yet to be named.

In recent days, however, Trump has raised questions about his willingness to stick to the agreed upon schedule.

After first embarking on a Twitter rant where he accused Democrats of "trying to rig the debates" by pitting them against two NFL prime time games, Trump told "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos that NFL officials had contacted him to also express their dismay.

"I got a letter from the NFL saying, 'This is ridiculous.' Why are the debates against-' 'cause the NFL doesn't wanna go against the debates. 'Cause the debates are gonna be pretty massive, from what I understand, okay? And I don't think we should be against the NFL. I don't know how the dates were picked."

NFL officials have since insisted they never sent Trump any such letter. Meanwhile, the debate schedule was set up by the bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates more than a year ago.

The lone vice presidential debate between Tim Kaine and Mike Pence is scheduled for Oct. 4 on the campus of Longwood University in Virginia.
