Monica Puig at US Open 2016

Puerto Rico native Puig started the U.S. Open in the Women’s Singles Round 1 on Monday against China’s Saisai Zheng. After playing two sets and 18 games, Puig won just one return game but Zheng upset the Olympic gold medalist 6-4, 6-2. The 22-year-old racked up to 45 points in the U.S. Open 2016 and hopes to make a comeback at the majors.

“I need to keep racking up as much experience as I can,” Puig told USA Today. “You know what? This isn’t going to be the last of me. I know I’m going to keep working hard. The Olympics was something that happened because of all my hard work.”

Novak Djokovic at US Open 2016

Serbia’s Djokovic is up after the U.S. Open Men’s Singles first round against Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz. Djokovic played four sets winning seven total return games. He racked up 131 points in the first round of the 2016 U.S. Open Tennis Games.

Despite his current wrist injury, Djokovic upset Janowicz 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.

The Olympian also suffered from an arm injury but he did not let that stop him. After the fifth game, he called a medical timeout where the trainer worked on his arm.

Djokovic will play against Czech’s Jiri Vesely in the U.S. Open Men’s Singles Round 2. Vesely beat the Serbian in Monte Carlo earlier this year. Will Djokovic make a major comeback with this one?

Rafael Nadal in U.S. Open 2016

Spain’s Nadal also started the 2016 U.S. Open in high standards beating Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. Nadal played three sets in the first round, winning seven total return games.

Garbine Muguruza at U.S. Open 2016

Spain’s Muguruza beat Belgium’s Elise Mertens 6-0, 6-3 in the first round of at the U.S. Open Women’s Singles. Muguruza, also a native of Caracas, Venezuela, racked up 84 points in the first round, winning a total of six return games.
