Indian Actress Jacqueline Fernandez will make a debut at New York Fashion Week after becoming a new brand ambassador for a hair product in India. NYFW 2016 officially started on Wednesday Sept. 8 and will go on until Sept. 14 with the final show ending at 8 p.m. EST.

“I’m super excited to attend New York Fashion Week for the first time, as the brand ambassador of TRESemmé India,” Fernandez told Indian Express. “The whole vibe is about taking fashion and style a notch higher, and that’s totally me. I cannot wait to get some great beauty and fashion trends from there.”

Fernandez will attend NYFW with TRESemmé as an official backstage partner. She will add a Bollywood twist to the star-studded event and is set to attend big name labels like Hugo Boss, Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta.

Is Jacqueline Fernandez Mexican

Although some fans may ask if Jacqueline is Mexican, she is actually of Southeast Asian descent. Her mother Kim Fernandez is from Malaysia and her father Elroy Fernandez is from Sri Lanka.

Her parents moved the family – she and her two brothers and older sister – to the small Middle Eastern country Bahrain when she was a baby. She finished high school in Bahrain and received a scholarship to study Media and Communications at the University of Sydney in Australia.

Fernandez started an acting career with her first Bollywood film in 2009 called “Aladin.” Before that, she was crowned the 2006 Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe and later competed in the 2006 Miss Universe competition.

Meanwhile, Reality TV stars Kendall and Kylie Jenner are throwing a party Wednesday night for their new collection, while Kanye West sells concert T-shirts at the famous fashion show following his own show a few weeks ago.

Google revealed a new search feature tailored for fashion week that allows mobile users to access NYFW show schedules easier than ever before. With the new feature, users can view photos from individual collections, buy looks they see on and off the runway, and get access to behind-the-scenes content supplied by select designers.
