After Michael Sam became the first openly gay player drafted to the NFL, the whole country buzzed with the news. Whether good or bad, many voiced their opinion but what is it going to be like for Sam in the upcoming weeks and months as he readies himself for the NFL tryouts?

On Wednesday, the Oprah Winfrey Network announced that it would air a documentary miniseries on Sam. In a statement, the network announced the project that would follow Sam as he earns his place in the St. Louis Rams team. "The Untitled Michael Sam Project" (working title) will provide an up-close and personal look into Sam's journey as well as his personal life, according to the statement.

"We are honored that Michael is trusting us with his private journey in this moment that has not only made history but will shape it forever," said Oprah Winfrey. "I am proud of the focus on authentic storytelling in our new documentary series format. The next real-life story we follow in 'The Untitled Michael Sam Project' promises to spark valuable, important discussion on life in America today. Acceptance and illumination start here."

Some would argue that Sam's move to do the series would be a distraction that will detract from his athletic achievement. However, Sam hopes the series will help others.

"Like every player out there working to make a team right now, my focus is on playing football to the very best of my ability," said Sam in the statement. "I am determined. And if seeing my story helps somebody else accept who they are and to go for their dreams too, that's great. I am thankful to Oprah for her support and excited to work together."

According to ESPN, the terms of the agreement are undisclosed but they report negotiations took about two months, before he was even drafted by the NFL. The series, ESPN reports, will be broken into six to eight segments and will include his agents Cameron Weiss and Joe Barkett as producers as well as Howard Bragman, Sam's publicist.

Aside from them, Pilgrim Studios as well as Emmy-nominated filmmaker Amy Rice will produce the show among others.
