Next Monday's season finale of "Bones" will be intense as both Booth and Brennan's lives will drastically change and Booth becomes a target in an ongoing investigation.

A promo for the season 9 finale, titled "The Recluse in the Recliner," shows Booth being rushed to the emergency room while covered in blood. He appears to need life-saving surgery as Brennan becomes frantic.

According to the Examiner, the upcoming episode will revolve around a conspiracy blogger named Wesley Foster who is killed right after he arranges a meeting with Booth. Realizing that the killer didn't want Foster to talk to Booth, the team must figure out who's behind his murder and the significance behind the info that he planned to expose.

In an interview with reporters, actor David Boreanaz revealed that Foster wants to talk to Booth about the McNamaras, but when he is found dead in his trailer, they suspect that the FBI may be involved in a cover-up.

"This kind of an unusual investigation because the dead body has something to do with the whole story -- there was a connection between Wesley Foster, who's the dead person," Boreanaz previewed, according to Zap2It.com. He went on to say that Booth gets a "mysterious phone call from someone he doesn't know, who says he wants to talk to him about the McNamaras, who were the people related to the ghost killer case."

He added, "Booth gets a call from this guy who's a conspiracy blogger and the next thing we know this guy is burned to death in his trailer. So very suspicious circumstances -- and it leads us to think that there might be people involved with this at the FBI. It leads to lots of things and is connected to the whole story of the episode."

Actress Emily Deschanel also teased that "[t]here's a big cliffhanger. There's a lot going on for Booth and Brennan." She added that some huge incident at the end of the episode will change everything, including Booth's job and possibly Brennan's job as well. "It will change the dynamic and everything about them and their work and relationship."

Boreanaz continued, saying, "There's a lot of destructive forces that come upon us and we find out that there's more to it than what meets the eye and they've been working underground for a while. ... It all kind of comes to a head, and it's pretty detrimental at the end. Things will change for the good, and there will be also things that they will have to adjust to."

He also said, "Things will change for the good and there will be also things that they'll have to adjust to. I keep saying adjusting because it's definitely going to be different."

Executive producer Stephen Nathan also dropped a few spoilers about the game-changing finale, telling TVLine that Booth becomes aware of a possible government conspiracy just when he is on the verge of getting a bigger role at the FBI.

"The Ghost Killer turned out to be the tease for a much larger story about government corruption," declares Nathan. "Since Booth is potentially being promoted to a much more important and influential position, he will be forced to confront and deal with this corruption head on." As a result, "We will end Season 9 not knowing the future of Booth and Brennan's lives. They will have to uncover and set right what has been poisoned in the FBI. And both will have to deal with what they've been forced to do."

The synopsis for "The Recluse in the Recliner" states that "the Jeffersonian team investigates the death of Wesley Foster, a conspiracy blog writer who had arranged to meet up with Booth to discuss a previous case before his untimely death. Realizing that whoever killed Foster did not want him talking to Booth, the team has to try to figure out who is behind the death and how the previous case is relevant. As Booth and the Jeffersonian team dig deeper into the burgeoning conspiracy surrounding the man's death, it's evident Booth may be in over his head, and his future with the FBI is put in question."

"Bones" S9E24, "The Recluse in the Recliner," airs Monday, May 19 at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
