The latest addition to the Star Trek franchise will come in the form of television series Star Trek: Discovery. Three actors have been confirmed for CBS' Upcoming TV series "Star Trek Discovery" namely Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp who would be joining Michelle Yeoh as the cast members.

According to entertainment, one of the new characters will be the decades old franchise's first to originally conceive and announced as gay i.e Anthony Rapp who will be playing as Lt.Stamets.

Speaking of their roles and character, Yeoh will play Captain Georgiou, the Starfleet Captain aboard the Starship Shenzhou.

Doug Jones (HellBoy, Falling Skies)  will be portraying a Starfleet Science Officer named Lt. Saru. The character will be from a new alien species of the "Star Trek" universe as reported by ecumenical news.

Anthony Rapp (Rent, Road Trip) will star as Lt. Stamets, an "astromycologist," fungus expert, and Starfleet Science Officer aboard the Starship Discovery.

In the Franchise's last movie release Star Trek Beyond, there was speculation on a gay character coming into the set. It's suppose to be a scene where Sulu kisses his beautiful husband but didn't make it to the cut. It looks like in the new TV series Doug Jones is stepping in the shoes of Starfleet Science Officer,Lt. Saru.

Bryan Fuller, the show's executive producer told reporters on August, adding at least one gay guy was important to the show.Fuller who is gay also added, "Absolutely we're having a gay character."

When  Fuller was working on Star Trek:Voyager, he received a file's worth full of hate mail after rumored of having gay cast. Fuller said he was determined that if he ever did his own Star Trek show, there would be a character who is gay. "We've come a long way since then."
