Lamar Odom wanted to start fresh and totally healed from his previous bouts of chemical dependence which had almost caused his life. On Monday, the former NBA player decided to admit himself to a rehab facility with the support of his family and friends who wanted him to be a better person after this. His divorce with Khloe Kardashian is set to be finalized on December 17, which adds up to his motivation to start anew and avoid any relapse of his addiction.

As USA TODAY reports, Lamar Odom had himself admitted into a rehab facility near San Diego to allow the complete healing of his chemical dependence, as he will be doing this for his children to be able to be on the right path. Sources say that Odom wanted to start the New Year right by staying sober and to completely get rid of all the bad things he used to be doing once and for all. Last year was a blast for the former forward of Mavericks, as he was found overdosed with cocaine and sexual performance enhancement substances for three days.

The incident had nearly killed him and he was placed into induced coma for two weeks. In the meantime, Khloe Kardashian, however, postponed the divorce proceedings to care for her estranged husband. Lamar Odom has played for numerous teams like Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks with his 6 ft 10" height; he last played in the NBA during the 2012-13 seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers.

For Lamar Odom, this is his own decision as he wanted to prepare well all the aspects of his health for the next chapter of his life, according to Fox News, he did not relapse or slipped off again on his old ways, but instead he wanted to 'maintain his sobriety'. Although there are certain instances this year when Lamar Odom encountered some problems, as his ex-wife Khloe Kardashian kept reminding him of his drinking problems or some friends were a bit concerned that he came back on his addiction. This seemingly troubling information has not been cleared yet by Odom's rep up to this moment.
