Upset "Sherlock" fans over the initial announcement of having to wait until 2016 for the television show's season 4 might be delighted to know the latest update. The current theory is that production will follow the trend of having a two-year gap between seasons.

"Sherlock" premiered in 2010, season 2 aired in 2012, and the recently concluded season released its first episode in 2014. If this pattern holds true, season 4 would most likely be shown in 2016. However, according to reports, BBC denied the rumors that season 4 will be released in two years, possibly hinting that it could be sooner. Anonymous sources support the rumors divulging that the new season could air as early as 2015. Obviously, it's too early to expect it this year, but 2015 is the hope and expectation, according to a source. It was also added that production would begin in early next year.

When asked in an interview, producer Steven Moffat only gave a vague response regarding when the show would return. He more or less said he had no idea, adding that he is currently busy with other commitments, mainly the new series of "Doctor Who". Moffat nonetheless admitted that the production team will do what they can but without sacrificing quality. He further said that the series is not the kind of show that turns up all the time. If fans will have to wait two years, then so be it.

One of the greatest difficulties "Sherlock" is facing is to accommodate the schedules of the leading actors, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, both of whom enjoy thriving movie careers. While waiting for season 4, it was earlier rumored that the fans could expect a one-episode special in anticipation of "Sherlock" Season 4. Regardless, one thing is for sure -- "Sherlock" will be as amazing and full of surprises as always.
