For the first time since 1992, the Super Bowl will be hosted in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2018.

The Vikings will be playing in a brand new stadium by 2018, which will be technologically up to date and will be able to fit thousands of fans. The new Vikings Stadium will be a dome, so the cold weather argument obviously did not play a factor for the voters. Last year's Super Bowl in East Rutherford, New Jersey, which is outdoors, was a huge success.

The other two NFL cities that were in the running for the Super Bowl were Indianapolis and New Orleans.

As usual, there was no super majority vote, so a re-vote took place. Actually, three re-votes took place. The first city eliminated was Indianapolis, Indiana. Indianapolis has only hosted one Super Bowl, which was Super Bowl 46 in 2012. Is it possible that Colts owner Jim Irsay and his off-the-field issues with alcohol and drugs hurt their chances?

The Super Bowl is by far the biggest sporting event of the year. It is the most watched television event bringing in the highest ratings annually and has basically become an American holiday. Being the host city of the Super Bowl is a great honor and can help boost an economy. Various owners will try to make every case as to why their stadium and city is the best location to host the Super Bowl.

Unfortunately for many owners, fans and teams, location hinders their possibility. Cities like Chicago and Green Bay experience high winds, a lot of snow, cold temperatures, and play outdoors. They have no plans of hosting the Super Bowl in the near future.

New Orleans has hosted the Super Bowl 10 times already, so it's good to see a little diversity among the geography of the Super Bowl. The last time the Super Bowl was in New Orleans (2013) the lights went out in the Super Dome, causing a 35-minute delay. This obviously didn't help New Orleans' case for Super Bowl 52.

Congratulations to the city of Minneapolis. The Vikings will have a chance to play a Super Bowl at home.
