Talk about having a critic for a father. It is now being confirmed that Simon Cowell and his girlfriend Lauren Silverman are expecting a baby, which is great and all, except for one important detail. Silverman is still married to a friend of Cowell's.

That's right, Lauren Silverman is the estranged wife of real estate mogul Andrew Silverman, who has been good friends with Cowell for a while now. Though they still haven't gotten a formal divorce, apparently the Silverman marriage had been on the outs for over a year.

"Lauren and Andrew have been unhappy in their marriage for some time, and their divorce has been in the works for a while," a source told Us Magazine. "As their marriage deteriorated, she and Simon became close."

Very close, apparently. In fact, it is possible that Lauren's relationship with Simon may have been the cause of a fair amount of stress in the marriage. The Silvermans and Cowell would often vacation together, though Andrew would routinely not stay for the whole time, leavin Simon and Lauren alone together.

"Andrew's parents boycotted their wedding because they had their doubts about Lauren. They thought she was suspect," a source told the Daily Mail. "They would organize these month-long trips and Andrew would go for two weeks and then leave for business and Lauren would stay behind. And people talked when she left their little boy at home and stayed away for a month."

It is rumored that Cowell and Lauren Silverman started up a torrid affair behind his friend Andrew's back, leading to the downfall of the marriage. So far those rumors have been unsubstantiated, but without a dount, the situation is a messy one regardless.

The news of a baby for Cowell is also surprising considering his lifestyle. The former American Idol judge has had a long history of being the consummate bachelor and seemed utterly opposed to settling down for quite some time. In interviews he's even been adamant that he would never have a child.

"God, no. I couldn't have children. If I had them here drawing on the walls I'd go nuts," reflected Cowell back in 2009. "With kids, you've got a routine you can't escape from. You've got to be up at a certain time. Got to listen. When all you want to do is sit in a corner thinking."

Now it appears that whether he likes it or not, Simon is about to be a father. To his credit, Cowell has more recently seemed open to the idea of children in interviews, even going so far that he does "really, really like kids." Silverman is reported to be about ten weeks into her pregnancy, so expect the baby sometime at the beginning of next year.
