One of the most consistent games when it comes to topping the sales for Nintendo, the Smash Bros. franchise has not failed the gaming company in each release of this iconic game. However, Nintendo has used the franchise sparingly with only one release of the title for every home console it produces, starting with the N64. With releases being so few and far between, gamers and fans alike have to wait years between each sequel, only hoping for their favorite character to be part of the roster. Characters available in the Super Smash Bros. games come from a wide range of media, such as television shows, cartoons, anime, and games among others, with most of them coming from popular Nintendo franchises. Included in the playable characters are fan favorites Pikachu, Super Mario, Mega Man and many more.

The gameplay of the Super Smash Bros. series is quite interesting, deviating from the commonly known types of fighting games such as Tekken or Street Fighter where players win by depleting the opponent's life bar. In Super Smash Bros., the player's goal is to knock the opposing characters off the stage where the battle takes place. Furthermore, unlike in other fighting games that require memorizing a combination of buttons or a series of attacks to perform special moves for every character, players will only have to know short control combinations common to all characters. Dodging and blocking attacks or grabbing and throwing other characters are also possible.

With new consoles being made by Nintendo, specifically the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS, fans already excitedly anticipate the next release of Super Smash Bros. expected to take place in summer this year for the 3DS and soon after for the Wii U version. Characters and stages are being confirmed little by little in order to keep the excitement building up. GamesRadar and NintendoEverything have up-to-date lists of characters and stages as announced by the developers. More announcements and releases can be expected in the E3 game conference next month.
