"The Vampire Diaries" series finale is not far away anymore. Actress Nina Dobrev finally wrapped up with her Elena Gilbert filming and now it's just the wait for fans.

According to E!News, it won't be a surprise if "The Vampire Diaries" decides to kill off their major characters while wrapping up the series. Showrunner Julie Plec has previously mentioned their desire for an epic season finale.

"We wanted to go big, emotionally, with the action, and with the spectacular of it," Entertainment Weekly quoted Plec. "We were absolutely feeling epic." How far will the writers go to make "The Vampire Diaries" finale as shocking as possible. That brings in the speculations as which characters will have to sacrifice themselves in order to achieve the desired ending.

The obvious choice is definitely Bonnie, played by Kat Graham. Nina Dobrev's Elena Gilbert exit two years ago was done in such a way that if she chose to come back, Bonnie has to die. Now that Elena Gilbert will back in "The Vampire Diaries" for the final episode, Bonnie's future doesn't look that bright. There are speculations that since Chris Wood's character Kai is back with revenge on his mind, could he be the one behind Bonnie's death.

Another fallen soldier by the end could be Stefan Salvatore. "The Vampire Diaries" fans, especially Team Stefan, were heartbroken to see the transitions one half of the Salvatore had to undergo till now.

Rumors are rife that Paul Wesley's character Stefan might choose the martyr's path. Maybe he will sacrifice himself so that his brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena Gilbert can be together finally.

Nothing will shock the "The Vampire Diaries" fans if they see Damon biting the dust in series finale. The question rises again as how far the show creators will go to provide that shock factor to the audience to make the finale a memorable one.

Apart from the top choice, there are several others who have high chances to die in the finale especially as collateral damage. One of the characters between Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig), Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen, Caroline Forbes (Candice King) and Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis) is bound to die in "The Vampire Diaries" series finale.
