The epic historical drama film "Gladiator" can come back again. Director Ridley Scott admitted he is interested in "Gladiator 2" and that too with Russell Crowe in it.

According to Entertainment Weekly, there have been rumors of "Gladiator 2" going around for a long time. The 2000's movie was both critically acclaimed and a box office hit, earning 12 Oscars nominations and winning five.

It's a known fact that in the "Gladiator" Crowe's character Maximus dies at the end, leaving very little to go on for "Gladiator 2". On the other hand, making a sequel without Crowe in it may not earn the same accolades as its predecessor.

When asked about a potential follow-up of "Gladiator", Scott surprised the fans. The director hinted that is very much interested in making a "Gladiator 2" and even has an idea about a potential plot with Crowe in it. All he needs is a nod from the actor.

"I know how to bring him back," EW quoted Scott talking about "Gladiator 2".  "I was having this talk with the studio - 'but he's dead.' But there is a way of bringing him back. Whether it will happen I don't know. Gladiator was 2000, so Russell's changed a little bit. He's doing something right now but I'm trying to get him back down here."

According to Express, it was previously reported that Crowe has asked musician Nick Cave to write a script for "Gladiator 2" a few years ago. Needless to say, the idea was shelved and it hasn't been clear whether Scott had any connection with the script or not. If it had been successful at that time, fans could have gotten a good look at Maximus and his journey through the afterlife.

Ridley Scott is currently promoting the upcoming Alien franchise movie, "Alien: Covenant". The science fiction horror film is set to hit theaters on May 19, 2017. No further confirmation has been obtained for "Gladiator 2" from the director.
