The New York Rangers will be playing in the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals.

They defeated the Montreal Canadiens in game six 1-0 to clinch the series four games to two. The game was played in a sold out crowd at the one and only Madison Square Garden in front of over 18,000 cheering fans. When the final horn rang, the entire Rangers team jumped in joy realizing they had won the Eastern Conference. The benches cleared, and later the two teams shook hands for the last time this season.

The Rangers were then awarded the Prince of Wales Trophy, which is presented to the winner of the Eastern Conference.

Game six was an epic defensive battle between the two teams. Both goaltenders played great as well, including backup Dustin Tokarski. Tokarski took over the starting role after Carey Price was injured in game one and was ruled out by the Canadiens for the rest of the series. The Rangers put 32 shots on Tokarski, and he would stop 31 of them. Rangers goalie Henrick Lundqvist earned a shutout after he stopped all 18 shots he faced.

Lundvist owed this game to his team. He was pulled in game five after he allowed four goals in less than two periods. This was his first shutout of the postseason and his ninth career postseason shutout.

The only goal of the game was scored in the second period by center Dominic Moore. Moore was originally drafted by the Rangers in 2000 and has since played for eight different teams. The Rangers picked him up this past off-season.

The Rangers will now be playing in their 11th Stanley Cup Championship. Overall, the franchise is 4-6 in their previous 10 attempts. The Rangers last appearance in the Finals was in 1994 when they defeated the Vancouver Canucks in a thrilling seven game series. The team that saw Mark Messier put a team on his back and follow up on his guarantee.

Either the Los Angeles Kings or the Chicago Blackhawks will play the Rangers in the Stanley Cup. Currently, the Kings lead that series 3-2 and game six is going to be played in Los Angeles. Either way, the Rangers will be facing a tough opponent and will be the road team in the series.

Game one of the Stanley Cup is scheduled to start on Wednesday, June 4
