Last week, Washington has announced that it has fired longtime head coach Lorenzo Romar. Since then, many experts are widely speculating that 2017's No. 1 player Michael Porter Jr., whose father Michael Sr. was one of Romar's coaching staff, would ask for a release.

According to Yahoo! Sports, during a Wednesday conference about the discussion on winning Gatorade's National Player of the Year award, Michael Porter, Jr., the 6-foot-9 small forward from Nathan Hale officially confirmed his intents about asking for a release from his National Letter of Intent. "As of right now I'm just trying to take it slowly with my family and weigh in on my options," Porter, Jr. said during the conference, along with saying that he is planning to get his NLI from Washington back.

Michael Porter, Jr. also made it clear that he is not saying that he has completely disregarded going to Washington, further explaining that he just want to weigh his options and see the pros and cons of other schools and basically start off new.

Michael Porter, Jr. also said that he was very much connected to the former coaching staff and now that it's all gone he wants to re-evaluate his options. During the conference, Porter Jr. also confirmed that his father, who was a former assistant on the Missouri women's team before taking the Washington job, has been offered a new job by newly-hired Missouri coach Cuonzo Martin.

According to Tarheel Times, many experts believe that all of this would set up the potential for a family reunion of sorts in Missouri. Not only did Michael Porter, Jr.'s father was an assistant for the Missouri women, the head coach also happens to be his aunt Robin Pingeton and older sisters Bri and Cierra are also playing for the program.

To top everything off, Porter's younger brother Jontay Porter, who is a 6'9 power forward who ranks No. 38 in the class of 2018, has also de-committed from Washington last week. The potential also remains for Jontay to reclassify for 2017 and join forces with Michael wherever he lands next season.
