Delayed flight passengers

Delayed flights happen to everyone. It is a situation in which passengers cannot avoid. However, it doesn't have to be the end of the world, or at least the end of a somewhat pleasant experience. Here is how to make the most out of waiting in the airport.

This is something I'm sure we can all get excited about; passengers can make money if their flight is delayed. Although it does depend on how long the delay is, as well as the destination, but according to Fodors, certain money-back perks can be enjoyed in European Union airports, or if passengers are bound to EU countries via EU airlines.

Delayed flights are bothersome, and can put unnecessary pressure and stress on passengers. Most of us fly for important reasons such as crucial meetings, important business events, or quality time with loved ones. The least the airlines can do is provide facilities, services or compensation to ease the burden.

If travelers are in the EU airport, they can receive at least 665 dollars per person if the flight is delayed. This is due to Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, which aims to protect passengers and travelers. For those who availed tickets, they must check first if they are eligible for the reimbursements in case of missed or delayed flights. Snacks are mandatory if the delay is only a few hours and accommodation, access to calls and emails are standard for longer delays.

For flights that are eventually canceled, the passenger can choose to be rebooked on other flights or refund the payment. This rule applies to direct or connecting flights even if it is not EU airlines, as long as the first leg is from the EU-based airlines. The guideline states that it will be shouldered by the airline carrier regardless of the type of flight. Personal expenses can also be reimbursed provided there is proper documentation such as receipts and stubs.

Meanwhile, here are some perks passengers can enjoy if their flight is cancelled or delayed. Airlines provide vouchers for spa, massage or certain restaurants that people can choose from. Gyms are also free of use as well as swimming pools in some airports. This is also a chance to explore what the airport has to offer. There could be theaters, golf courses, pubs, aquariums or museums which can be accessed for free.

For those who do not want to get involved in trip delays, it is better to book flights in the morning and avoid major airports, if possible, Forbes reported. Statistics show that flights are more likely to get delayed when it departs at night. Weather conditions must also be observed. Flight cancellation or delays usually involve harsh weather conditions.

If anyone is traveling to any place, he or she must take note of national holidays there. By knowing this, they can avoid long lines of people going to or going out of the country. If the inevitable happens, it is time to bring out that book and spend time reading or watching movies. Also, tagging the airline carrier on social media helps. Per Bustle, airlines now have dedicated social media teams that are specifically tasked to address complaints and inquiries online.

The most efficieant way to travel is to always think ahead and prepare for the worst. Emergency kits containing basic necessities, some food, fully charged power banks and internet connections are standard stuff. Because unforeseen incidents happen beyond the passenger's control, it is best to stay ahead and know the steps on how to claim refunds or how to rebook flights in case delays or cancellations happens.
