Aguilera has a deep respect for her Latina heritage. Her father is an Ecuadorian, while her mother is of European descent.

The Latina singer revealed that during the early days of her career there had been a long debate among the music executives to change her last name because it's too "ethnic" and the first option was to make her name "Christina Agee," according to a published report in Fox News.

Aguilera said music executives also wanted to change her last name because all the businessmen around her thought that it was too long and too complicated, aside from being too ethnic.

However, Aguilera fought for her last name and she did not replace nor change it because she respects her heritage and she had carried her last name since she was a young Disney Star.

According to Daily Mail, the Latina pop singer said she was "dead set against the idea" of changing her last name and she wanted to represent who she really was.

She noted that being a Latina is part of her life and heritage, adding that she has been fighting for her last name all throughout her whole life.

Christina Aguilera's Awards in the Music Industry

Having an ethnic last name did not hinder Aguilera to achieve different nominations, awards, and recognition in the music industry. In fact, she is one of the most followed and loved performers until today.

Aguilera is a five-time Grammy award winner and has been nominated 20 times in Grammy throughout her career. Her first and only Spanish language album titled "Mi Reflejo" in 2000 peaked at No.1 on the Top Latin Albums and Latin Pop Album charts, according to Billboard.

This helped her to earn a Latin Grammy award and was named in 2001 as the Best Female Pop Local Album. The Latina superstar said the message she wanted to convey in her music is to be fearless, to explore who you are, and that it is never too late to open a new door.
