Nintendo is capitalizing on nostalgia and the fans' endearment towards their favorite characters in the Nintendo universe that join together once very console for a free-for-all brawler game. The gaming company's bestselling franchise, Super Smash Bros., is set to be released on Oct. 3 for the Nintendo 3DS and this winter for the Wii U. Its unique gameplay will retain its overall familiarity while adding newer modes and challenges and, of course, more playable characters this time around. Nintendo has also expanded the characters' customization options, which includes their strengths and abilities.

While Smash Bros. has been among Nintendo's most popular titles, the gaming company has released versions of the game very sparingly, appearing only once on every home console beginning with the N64 back in 1999. Gamers and fans have to wait for years while hoping that their favorite character from other Nintendo franchises will be a part of the roster. The last release before this one was in 2008 on the original Wii. In the latest installment, players will be able to carry the iconic brawlers with them wherever they go in the palm of their hand with the Nintendo 3DS. Although this version will not have complete features as with its Wii U counterpart, players will be given a different yet enjoyable mode of gaming.

Although the final line-up of playable characters has not yet been released, players can expect the return of old favorites such as Pikachu, Mario, Luigi, Link, Kirby, Jigglypuff, Donkey Kong and many more. New brawlers include Pac-man, Palutena from Kid Icarus, Mii Fighters, Greninja, Little Mac from Punch-Out, Rosalina and Luma, Villager, Mega Man and even the Wii Fit Trainer. The character list is constantly being updated as Nintendo heads towards the release date of the much-anticipated game.

Millions of copies of each of the older versions of the Smash Bros. series were sold worldwide. Although sales of the Wii U have not been stellar, this game could be the console-seller that will solve all that.
