GTA 5 for PS4, Xbox One and PC Update, Pre-Order and Requirements: Sony Exec Teases 'Special Deal,' Calls Grand Theft Auto a 'PlayStation Franchise'
This week, Rockstar Games finally announced that they will release Grand Theft Auto V on PC, Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4 at an undisclosed time in the fall of this year. According to Sony, however, gamers might get something extra special if they pick up the PS4 version of the game.
During an interview this week, Kotaku asked John Koller, PlayStation's North American marketing vice president, if there will be any unique "deal" or "offering" that will make Grand Theft Auto V better on PS4 than the rival platforms.
"I don't think we announced anything publicly on that, but there will be," he said.
The executive was coy about what differences in particular PS4 gamers can expect, but he did say that more information is likely on it's way.
"GTA V is going to be, I think, a title we'll talk about more in the weeks and months to come, but GTA V and the GTA franchise is something that will be something very special on PlayStation," Koller said.
The executive added that Grand Theft Auto V owes some of its success to PlayStation.
"I think GTA V is a title that did extremely well on the PlayStation 3. In fact ... the index rate ... the amount of people who purchase one platform or the other relative to the install base, it swung well in PlayStation's favor for GTA V, a lot of it because of the partnership we had with Rockstar," Koller said. "We would expect that to happen here, too. GTA is a PlayStation franchise. It started with us. We really feel strongly that it belongs as a key platform driver for us."
Grand Theft Auto V for PS4, Xbox One and PC (requirements have not been named yet) can be pre-ordered here. Each game is priced at $59.99.
