Within the Latino culture, baby's ears are pierced as soon as possible.

This practice, however, is not accepted as the norm by many other groups, so when Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and baby North were strolling around Manhattan this weekend, North's newly pierced ears were the subject of debate.

The tot was wearing diamond earrings, which matched the larger pair that Kardashian was wearing, the Daily Mail noted. The family kept to a united white-and-cream color combination.

As always, people took to Twitter to express their thoughts on the situation.

Some were supportive.

And some were completely rude.

Those who are against babies having their ears pierced say that it is cruel and that the child has not chosen this. Also, some believe parents choose to pierce ears for their own vanity. Gisele Bundchen drew criticism when she showed off a picture of her baby with newly pierced ears, which is very common in Brazil. Many girls leave the hospital with their ears pierced.

On the other side, people believe piercing baby's ears is OK because it's easier.

If it's done between 0 to 4 months of age, the baby is less likely to tug at it and cause an infection, which is something an older child might be tempted to do. And the parent is solely responsible for taking care of the ears, which can be done as the baby sleeps. According to Parents.com, Dr. Wendy Sue Swanson encourages parents to wait until the baby is 6 months old. "Any time you puncture the skin, you open up the opportunity for infection, and because infants still have developing immune systems, I encourage parents to wait until their child is at least 6 months old to get her ears pierced," she said.

Plus, some say that at athat age the baby is also not going to remember the pain.

There are plenty of arguments on both sides, but Kim and Kanye have certainly found themselves in the middle of it all.
