Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro has left the Sao Paulo hospital, where he was treated for an obstructed intestine since last week.

Jair Bolsonaro said he would be back at work on Monday, July 19, and looked forward to eating barbecued ribs, Aljazeera reported.

The Brazilian president noted that his condition was connected to a 2018 stabbing he experienced on the presidential campaign trail.

Ever since he was stabbed, he has undergone six operations. He noted that five of these operations were done on his digestive system.

Jair Bolsonaro said he was put on a diet of soups and purees, adding that he wanted to leave the hospital from day one, but he was not allowed.

The president of Brazil added that he hoped he could be eating barbecued ribs after 10 days. Bolsonaro would still be observed as an outpatient, the hospital said.

The Vila Nova Star hospital noted that the president of Brazil is making satisfactory progress, according to The Guardian.

Jair Bolsonaro was initially reported to be admitted to a military hospital in the capital after having a continuous bout of hiccups, lasting for more than 10 days.

Jair Bolsonaro's Stabbing

Jair Bolsonaro was campaigning for president in Juiz de Fora when he was attacked. He was sitting on a supporter's shoulders when an assailant struck a blade into his stomach, NPR reported.

The suspect for Bolsonaro's stabbing told investigators that he was enacting the orders of God. The attack had damaged his intestines and required a two-hour surgery to stop internal bleeding.

Adélio Bispo de Oliveira confessed to his crimes, and Jair Bolsonaro won the election despite spending three weeks in the hospital.

In 2019, Judge Bruno Savino ruled that Bispo would be held in a mental facility within the federal prison system. Savino said that the hospitalization would last for an indefinite period until medical experts have proven that Bispo is no longer a threat.

The judge had declared that the assailant would not be jailed as he was mentally ill. However, Bolsonaro said at the time that he would appeal the decision, according to an Associated Press News report.

The far-right president claimed that they tried to assassinate him, and he believes he knows who it was. However, he cannot say as he does not want to prejudge anyone.

Jair Bolsonaro's Presidency

The president of Brazil said earlier this month that he would be willing to step down from his position and give the presidential seat to whoever wins the election cleanly. However, he said that he would not do so if there is any fraud, Reuters reported.

Bolsonaro has made claims of voter fraud in Brazil without any supporting evidence ever since his 2018 election win. Critics said that it could lay the groundwork to challenge elections in the same strategy as former President Donald Trump did.

Jair Bolsonaro had supported Trump's claims of the stolen election last year. The stolen election claims had prompted the January 6th Capitol riot in Washington by a mob of Trump supporters.
