Zayn Malik was almost kicked out of the pop band One Direction for failing to wake up for rehearsals. The truth was revealed in London today during a press conference for the band's new 3-D film, This is Us.

"The first week we got together it was all a bit strange trying to get people together for rehearsals," Liam Payne, fellow band member, said. "Still to this day it's a struggle to get Zayn out of bed."

Morgan Spurlock, the filmmaker who shot This is Us agreed with Payne.

"Remember he didn't show up and you were going to fire him," he said.

The upcoming film documents One Direction's journey to fame during the past three years.

Malik reflected on the joy of buying his mother, Tricia Brannan, her dream house in Brad, West Yorkshire. He bought the house with his One Direction earnings.

"It was quite strange filming because it was the first time I'd actually spoken to my mum about it, and she'd gone round the house," Malik said. "It was quite strange but it was good and it's amazing thing to do."

Fans can see Brannan's reaction to the house in the film.

"I can look back on that in a few years time, and I've got amazing footage of my mum seeing the house for the first time," Malik said.

Other band members enjoyed filming the movie but have no interest in become full-time actors yet.

"It was weird in a way, it was really strange having the cameras around but at the same time it doesn't make that much of a difference. There was no big set-ups and stuff so it was kind of just getting on with your day," Harry Styles, One Direction member, said.

"It wasn't really an acting thing, it was just like following us around ... so we won't be going into acting any time soon," added Malik.

The band was formed in 2010 on The X-Factor. Simon Cowell grouped the five singers together after realizing they were not fit to be individual solo artists.

This is Us will be released in theaters Aug. 29.
