Kim Kardashian scored a victory in her divorce proceedings with Kanye West as she was declared legally single on Wednesday.

According to People, a Los Angeles judge granted the reality star's request to be declared legally single. Kim attended the hearing via a video conference, while her attorney, Laura Wasser, appeared in person.

Kanye did not participate, but he was represented by his lawyer, Samantha Spector, Independent reported. Kim has requested to be declared legally single in December, but Kanye objected to his ex-wife's request last month.

The rapper, who has legally changed his name to Ye, argued that it could create "a risk of adverse consequences" and "creates barriers to obtaining evidence" if one of them decides to remarry before the case is closed.

During the hearing, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Steve Cochran said Kanye's objection to the divorce appeared to be "theoretical." However, Kanye's attorney said they were not trying to stop Kim from being legally single, but they were trying to make sure that the rights of the rapper were "protected."

Through a bifurcation proceeding, the judge approved Kim's request to end the marriage and change in marital status while other issues were being addressed, Reuters reported.

"The Court grants termination of the marital status," Cochran said in a written order issued right after the public hearing. Kim's maiden name was also restored.

Kanye West Attorney Says Rapper 'Has No Objections to Kim Kardashian's Request

Kanye West's attorney maintained that the "Donda" rapper had no problem with Kim Kardashian's request but only wanted some technical issues dealt with before the single status was declared, Associated Press reported.

"Mr. West has no objections to moving this forward," Samantha Spector told the judge.

According to reports, Steve Cochran ultimately denied two of Kanye's requests, including one that will give the rapper's right to put Kim's new husband under oath for questioning if she remarries.

Kanye's request regarding what would happen to their children if one of them dies before their divorce is finalized was granted. The rapper's camp also included dealing with Kim's two retirement accounts and other assets and an agreement over the status of finances if one of them dies.

Although Kardashian was declared legally single, other issues still prevail, such as having a formal arrangement on child custody timing.

The pre-nuptial agreement also reportedly had not yet been accepted as official evidence. According to reports, these issues will be dealt with at a possible trial and hearings in the future.

Kim Kardashian's legal win marks the end of her third marriage. Kim was previously married to basketball player Kris Humphries and music producer Damon Thomas.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Divorce

After six years of marriage, Kim Kardashian filed for divorce in February last year, citing "irreconcilable differences."

In December, the SKIMS founder also asked to separate the issues of child custody and property from her marital status and have her maiden name restored aside from being declared legally single.

Their marriage became strained in 2020 when West, who suffers from bipolar disorder, declared his presidential bid under the banner of his self-styled Birthday Party.

They further grew apart as the rapper spent most of his time at his ranch in Wyoming while the fashion mogul remained at her mansion in Calabasas, California.

Kim Kardashian shares daughters North, 8, and Chicago, 4, and sons Saint, 6, and Psalm, 2 with Kanye West.
