President Joe Biden on Sunday pushed on funding the police following the tragic Buffalo shooting on Saturday that killed 10 people.

The president made his comments during the 41st Annual National Peace Officers Memorial Service outside the Capitol, according to the Daily Mail. Biden attended with First Lady Jill Biden.

During the event, Biden described the situation of the police or law enforcement officers in the aftermath of the tragic incident.

"Being a cop today is a heck of a lot harder than it's ever been," Biden said.

Pres. Joe Biden on Funding the Police

President Joe Biden focused his speech on Sunday on giving support to the police, as he urged the local governments across the nation to support them financially.

"I'm encouraging every mayor, governor to use the American resource money they have, and they have it now, you spend it now, this summer, when crime historically spikes," Biden underscored, per New York Post.

Biden added that local government should fund the police with the resources and training that they need to protect the communities and themselves. The president underscored that this should be done to restore the trust between the people and the law enforcement officers.

The president also underscored that he is committed to being a partner with police officers, just like he has always had.

"Folks the answer is not to abandon the streets, it's not to choose between safety and equal justice, and we should agree it's not to defund the police, it's to fund the police," Biden noted.

Speaking to around 20,000 attendees on Sunday, Biden also opened up about his administration's actions in connection to the Buffalo shooting on Saturday.

The U.S. chief executive pointed out that they are still gathering facts and that the Justice Department has pledged to investigate the matter as a hate crime and a racially motivated act of white supremacy and violent extremism.

It was not the first time that Biden made a plea to the officials of the local government to fund the law enforcement officers. It can be recalled that Biden also called on the officials of every city to hire more cops during his speech in the Rose Gardens.

Buffalo Shooting

President Biden made his comments a day after a White gunman in a military gear attacked shoppers and workers in Buffalo, New York.

The police identified the gunman as Payton Gendron of Conklin, New York, Associated Press reported.

Gendron was reportedly wearing body armor and live streaming with a helmet camera when he opened fire at the area around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Police confirmed that the gunman started shooting at the parking lot of the Tops Friendly Market.

Gendron then moved inside the store and killed a security guard identified as Aaron Salter.

Police did not release the names of the other victims, but authorities noted that 10 people were killed and three were injured in the Buffalo shooting. The victims were reportedly composed of 11 Black people and two White individuals.

Erie County Sheriff John Garcia called the shooting a hate crime.

"This was pure evil. It was (a) straight-up racially motivated hate crime from somebody outside of our community, outside of the City of Good Neighbors ... coming into our community and trying to inflict that evil upon us," Garcia highlighted on Saturday.
