One of Jennifer Lopez's most iconic roles is when she walked in Selena's shoes, and when the time comes for a movie based off Lopez's life, she knows exactly who should play her.

Lopez chose Selena Gomez who, incidentally, was named after Mexican singer Selena Quintanilla.

"I would want Selena Gomez to play me in a movie," Lopez said to Newsday. "She is a cutie."

Although the two Latinas have very different experiences, for example Lopez grew up in New York and Gomez grew up in Texas, the Puerto Rican actress-singer, 44, and the Mexican star, 21, both have had success in music and in movies.

And the movie wouldn't have the same effect on Gomez's career. The young starlet starred in "Wizards of Waverly Place" on Disney and took part in "Spring Breakers." For Lopez, snagging the leading role in "Selena" made her a superstar. The 1997 biopic was well received, and some still consider it one of Lopez's best roles.

Since then, Lopez has continued to have great success in her career. Recently, she was awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Billboard Music Awards. This made her the first woman to be awarded this prize.

Jason Evigan, who produced Gomez's "Stars Dance," told MTV that he expected Gomez to reach Lopez's level.

"I kind of feel she's going to be like a new JLo kind of thing," he said.

Gomez got the Latin pop song "Save the Day" on her "Stars Dance" album, though it was originally meant for Lopez.

But it seems Gomez wants to take a break from singing and focus on acting.

"Acting is something I would like to take on more seriously," she said. "I don't necessarily feel accomplished. I want to create a whole different persona when it comes to acting."

Do you think Gomez would make a good Jennifer Lopez?
