An unexpected source has confirmed speculation that singer and actress Jennifer Lopez will be returning to "American Idol" as a judge on its 2014 season.

Lopez's boyfriend, Casper Smart, let the news slip during an interview with E! News regarding his new nuvoTV show, "Step Away."

"Yes," Smart said when asked if Lopez was returning to the show for Season 13.

Fox had no comment regarding the accidental announcement.  The network, however, has expressed earlier interest in having Lopez, 44, return.

"Jennifer has been a close part of the show all along... there have been discussions there," Kevin Reilly, Fox Network President, previously said in a press conference.

Smart told E! News that he thought the announcement had already been made.

"Returning to 'American Idol' makes sense for Jennifer this season as the show's schedule will allow her to focus on new film and TV projects at the same time," an E! News source said. "And, of course, her twins are starting school this year, and she will have time for her family."

Sources say the deal with Lopez is not yet finalized. If the agreements are in fact made, fans will recognize Lopez's familiar face on the panel. She was a fan favorite in the 2011 and 2012 seasons of "American Idol."

In addition to Lopez, another fan favorite is officially confirmed to rejoin the judges' panel. Country singer Keith Urban, who served as a fun and fair mentor last season, will be reprising his role.

"Keith did a great job last year, the fans really liked him, Reilly said during the 2013 Summer TCA Press Tour. "Keith's a really funny guy. He didn't get to shine last year."

Urban sat alongside fellow judges Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson. The latter three will not be returning for the new season.

Rumors are floating around as to who the third "American Idol" judge will be. Suspected candidates are Will.I.Am and former "American Idol" contestants Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken and Adam Lambert.
