Hollywood found itself the latest target of North Korea's blind rage this week—a Pyongyang foreign ministry spokesman has said that if Seth Rogen and James Franco's new film is allowed to be released it could be considered an "act of war."

Though North Korea failed to mention the movie by name, Franco and Rogen's film "The Interview" certainly fits the description.

In the upcoming film, Franco and Rogen play a talk show host and a producer with plans to travel to North Korea to interview Kim Jong-un when the U.S. Central Intelligence recruits them to assassinate Kim Jong-un.

The trailer features an actor playing Jong-un, and the leader is called out by name.

"Making and releasing a movie on a plot to hurt our top-level leadership is the most blatant act of terrorism and war and will absolutely not be tolerated," said the North Korean spokesman.

The spokesman also said that this movie was inciting "a gust of hatred and rage" among North Koreans.

"If the U.S. administration allows and defends the showing of the film, a merciless counter-measure will be taken," the spokesman said.

North Korea continues to work on nuclear missile technology, and the country currently has three Americans in custody; U.S. citizen Jeffrey Edward Fowle was detained for leaving a Bible at a hotel.

Rogen, one of the directors of "The Interview," said the movie was inspired by journalists' trips to the country.

"People have the hypothetical discussion about how journalists have access to the world's most dangerous people, and they hypothetically would be in a good situation to assassinate them," he told Yahoo.

The movie was originally written with Kim Jong-il in mind, but the script was revised after his death in 2011. That's when they decided to focus on his son.

"The Interview" is set to be released in October, according to the BBC.
