Neymar will face trial for alleged irregularities regarding his transfer from Brazil to Barcelona.

The Brazilian player is currently playing for Paris Saint-Germain and is being accused of fraud and corruption, according to a BBC News report.

Spanish media outlets reported that Barcelona football club's former presidents, Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, and Neymar's parents face the same allegations.

All those involved in allegations of fraud have long denied the claims, which were made by investment fund DIS.

DIS argued that it was entitled to 40% of Neymar's 2013 transfer fee when he left Brazilian club Santos.

The investment fund said it had received less than the amount it was supposed to get, with part of the transfer fee hidden. The club said Neymar signed for Barcelona for €57.1 million fees, and DIS received €6.8 million of the €17.1 million paid to Santos.

DIS claimed that the real fee was much higher.

Neymar Fraud and Corruption Allegations

Daily Mail reported that prosecutors are seeking two years in prison for Neymar and a fine of £8.4 million.

DIS also claimed that his father signed two "simulated contracts" with Barcelona that ignored the players' rights belonging to the Brazilian club.

The Brazilian company also wants Neymar to be banned from football for five years and sent to prison for the same period.

DIS is looking for compensation of around £126 million.

In 2016, the company said Barcelona and Neymar broke the FIFA rules and altered fee competition in the transfer market. Neymar denied the allegations. However, Spain's High Court rejected appeals by the player in 2017.

Brazil is set to start its World Cup campaign against Serbia on November 24, which is four weeks after the trial is scheduled to start in Barcelona.

A two-year prison sentence is being sought for Neymar. The player has insisted that he was only focused on football, adding that he blindly trusted his father, who also plays a role as his agent.

Neymar World Cup

Euro Sport noted that PSG and Brazil forward Neymar is eyeing retirement from international football after the World Cup this year. Teammate Rodrygo was the one who made the claims about Neymar's retirement.

The Real Madrid forward made the revelation in an interview with PodPah through ESPN, saying that Neymar is "ready to leave the national team."

Rodrygo said that he told Neymar that he has to play some more. He also claimed that he will inherit Neymar's squad number.

Neymar has not won any major trophies while representing his country. He was injured when Brazil won the 2019 Copa America.

Meanwhile, Brazil is placed in Group G with Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon.

In a Sky Sports News, Neymar also said that he believes the World Cup will be his last for Brazil, saying he does not know if he will be able to "mentally endure" another one.

The Brazilian player said that he is treating the World Cup as his last one as he does not know what he will be able to mentally endure more soccer.
