Issa Rae recently said that everything happening with Ezra Miller is a "microcosm of Hollywood," particularly how the industry still protects offenders.

This year, Miller was detained twice in Hawaii for disorderly conduct and harassment. He was also charged with felony burglary in Vermont. According to Variety, Miller was also caught on camera in 2020 choking a woman outside a bar in Iceland.

Despite these incidents, Warner Bros. still intends to release "The Flash" next year. Miller has even been working on reshoots for the film recently.

Issa Rae's Sentiments

The actress, nominated for an Emmy, told Elle, "It feels like we're regressing, depressingly so."

Issa Rae said she does not support people jumping to conclusions immediately and thinks it is okay for investigations to be done. However, she added that she believes listening to women is very important.

"I'm gonna be real, the stuff that's happening with Ezra Miller is, to me, a microcosm of Hollywood," the "Insecure" star said.

Miller, a nonbinary person who utilizes they/them pronouns, is accused of displaying cult-like manners. Yahoo reported that the actor has been stirring the pot for disturbing behavior for months.

In an August statement, Miller apologized and said they were seeking treatment for "complex mental health issues" while Warner Bros. decided what would happen to "The Flash." The studio concluded to support the film and its star.

"There's this person who's a repeat offender, who's been behaving atrociously, and as opposed to shutting them down and shutting the production down, there's an effort to save the movie and them," Rae noted.

She said that is a clear example of how far Hollywood will go to "to save itself and protect offenders," adding that perhaps women can succeed if they do not do that as they will not have to live in fear of keeping silent.

Issa Rae further noted that this pattern of abuse will continue as long as Hollywood insists on being this way. She said there must be legitimate consequences, and people should be held accountable.

"Hollywood is very bad about consequences. It's literally the worst industry when it comes to punishing people for misdeeds and actions, because money will always reign supreme," the actress added.

'The Flash' Actor: Ezra Miller's Troubles

Last June, the parents of 18-year-old Native American environmental activist Tokata Iron Eyes and an anonymous 12-year-old child in Massachusetts both got temporary restraining orders against Ezra Miller because of alleged inappropriate behavior.

Rolling Stone reported that in the same month, Miller was also reported sheltering a woman and her three young children at his Vermont farm, where firearms and ammunition were easily accessible. State authorities visited the area because the living situation was dangerous, but they could not find the mother or the children.

Ezra Miller's downward spiral began with drug benders in Iceland at the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in September 2020. It led to fantasies that they were "the Messiah," while the Flash was the "Jesus" of the DC comics multiverse.

Meanwhile, despite the star's legal issues, Miller's superhero film "The Flash" is still on track to be released on June 23, 2023.
