The "Bronze Bomber," Deontay Wilder, is back after destroying Robert Helenius with a devastating right-hand counter in the opening round of their match, marking his 21st first-round knockout in his career. That punch has declared Wilder's intention to dominate the division.

"Deontay Wilder is back," he said in his post-fight interview on Fox. "The excitement in the heavyweight division is back."

Wilder was making a comeback after his 11th-round knockout loss to Tyson Fury last October.

ESPN reported that Fury was the first foe to survive Wilder's knockdown when he rose from the canvas in the 12th round in their split draw in 2018.

Fury defeated Wilder in their next two matches, including their bout last year, where they showed a tremendous exchange of knockdowns, which many fans consider the fight of the year.

Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) chose to fight Helenius, a Finnish challenger with whom he had sparred before his fights with Fury, in his first contest following the Fury trilogy.

Helenius (31-4, 20 KOs) had defeated Adam Kownacki twice in a row via knockout.

Deontay Wilder Almost Retired After Two Losses From Fury

When a statue in his honor was placed outside the visitor center in his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, 36-year-old Wilder chose to resume his career after months of retirement thought.

Now that he is back in the division, Wilder wants to fight unified champion Oleksandr Usyk, who just beat Anthony Joshua twice; and fellow PBC fighter Andy Ruiz Jr., who once beat Joshua for a triple of belts in 2019, CBS Sports noted.

"I have been hearing the rumors about Usyk. I don't see him? Where is he?" Wilder said.

He stated that sometimes, those guys who want to fight him tend to go in another direction after seeing his power.

"The excitement is back in the heavyweight division, and there is no excitement without Deontay Wilder. That's facts," Wilder said.

Wilder Vs. Helenius Match Ended Quickly

The opening round went off without a hitch, with Wilder moving rapidly across the ring to gain a feel for the big Finn.

There were exchanges of powerful punches in the first two and a half minutes, but none of them was successful. Then came the devastating ending for Helenius.

"The Nordic Nightmare" was charging forward, firing a right hand when The Bronze Bomber countered it with a thunderous right to the nose, knocking him out cold.

Helenius lay on his back, staring blankly into space. It took several minutes for him to regain his senses. He stepped out of the ring and went to his dressing room.

Deontay Wilder only needed 2 minutes and 57 seconds in the opening round to put Robert Helenius down.

According to Yahoo, Wilder was emotional during the post-fight interview.

"It was a great fight. Robert, I love you man. I can't wait to see. And who's next," he said.
