Because a case of mistaken identity and a misdelivered package, a Florida Man and his teenage son are now facing some serious charges, including attempted murder after they shot at a woman inside her car.

According to Fox 13 Tampa Bay, Gino Colonacosta, 73 and his 15-year-old son Rocky Colonacosta stalked a woman who was sitting inside her car, which was right outside her apartment. They then shot at her because they thought she was the "burglar" who triggered their doorbell camera.

The father and son were both arrested after deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office were called into an apartment complex located at 4900 Cypress Gardens Road in Winter Haven following the shooting.

'Burglar' Was Only a Neighbor Returning a Misdelivered Package

The main reason why Colonacosta and his son stalked and shot at the woman was that they thought she was a burglar and that she was the one who triggered their doorbell camera. However, as it turned out, the one who triggered their doorbell camera was another neighbor, and that neighbor was actually doing the Colonacostas a favor.

According to Click Orlando, a man who was living at the complex found that the delivery of prescription medication was wrongly sent to him, as it was intended for another unit. The man then took it to the correct address, which was the Colonacosta residence.

The kind neighbor then hung the package at the door handle and left. However, this triggered the doorbell camera and the alarm and prompted the elder Colonacosta into action. Both father and son were inside the house when the alarm was triggered, say authorities.

When the alarm went off, Colonacosta and his teen son immediately armed themselves with .45 caliber handguns thinking that their home was being broken into. They then went outside to look for the suspected burglar. However, at around that time, the neighbor who returned the package and triggered the alarm already made it back to his home.

As they were searching for the alleged burglar, the elder Colonacosta spotted a dark-colored car with dark windows. According to WTSP-10, it was almost a football field away, and the engine was running, with a woman inside the car.

The 73-year-old then pointed his gun at the woman and told her to get out of the car. This made the woman panic and she reversed her car in a bid to get away from the crazed duo. The two then shot at the car as she tried to drive away.

According to the Polk County Sherriff's office, a total of seven shots were fired, with the elder Colonacosta firing five shots, and the son firing twice. One bullet managed to hit the driver's seat.

The woman managed to escape with her life and called the cops. The father and son gunmen were later arrested.

The elder was charged with contributing to the delinquency or dependency of a child, possession of firearms by a minor under 18, conspiracy, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, attempted felony murder, culpable negligence, discharging a firearm in public or on residential property and improper exhibition of dangerous weapons or firearms. Meanwhile, his son was charged with possession of a firearm by a minor under 18, conspiracy, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, attempted felony murder, culpable negligence, discharging a firearm in public or on a residential property and improper exhibition of dangerous weapons or firearms.
