Selena Gomez was supposed to make a guest appearance on the "Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" on Wednesday night. However, the Latina superstar was forced to cancel her appearance after contracting COVID-19.

She tested positive for the virus and announced the cancellation on social media, according to CNN. She stated that while she will not be on Fallon, she is now resting and feeling OK.

She then urged everyone else to get updated COVID-19 booster shots after contracting the deadly virus. "A friendly reminder Covid is still out there. Get updated on your boosters," she wrote on her Instagram account. "I was actually scheduled to get mine this week."

For her Tonight Show appearance, she was likely supposed to promote her upcoming documentary "Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me." It is scheduled for global release on November 4 via Apple TV+.

Selena Gomez Reflects on Her Mental Health for Upcoming Documentary

Speaking of "Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me," the actress/singer talked about mental health and reflected on her journey.

"I think my past and my mistakes are what drives me into depression," she said.

E! News reported that the 30-year-old stated that it was important to show this aspect of her to fans.

"As nervous as I am to put out something this personal, in my heart I know now is this time," she stated in a recent interview with Vanity Fair Magazine.

She added that she hopes that by sharing her own experience and difficulties, this will help other people to feel inspired and share their own stories.

Filming for the documentary began in 2016 during her Revival tour. It was supposed to be a "standard" music documentary until cameras stopped rolling abruptly when she canceled her European leg because of mental issues.

Gomez hit some rough times after that, undergoing a kidney transplant as well as seeking treatment for her bipolar disorder. All this time, she admitted that she also remained in touch with the documentary's director, Alex Keshishian.

Selena Gomez on Talking About Mental Health

Selena Gomez's mental health issues have been well-documented, as she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in her 20s, according to E! News. Her upcoming documentary aims to take a look further into mental health and promote "public discourse about getting help, accepting yourself, and taking time to heal."

Gomez often speaks publicly to promote discourse on mental health. During the Mental Health Youth Action Forum in May, she admitted that after her diagnosis, she felt that there was more freedom for her to be okay with what she has. She then stated that bringing attention to mental health through media or just by talking about it helps.

Gomez has become a very outspoken ambassador for mental health, even meeting with ambassadors and activists at the White House to talk about her experience in dealing with having bipolar disorder.
