Netflix has announced that the Jeffrey Dahmer series "Monster" has been renewed for additional two seasons, with new serial killers.

The video streaming platform said just like the first season, the upcoming two seasons are set to chronicle the life of other serial killers, who also have made a huge negative impact on society. However, the names of the serial killers whose stories will be covered in the renewed "Monster" series have not been disclosed publicly.

The two seasons of "Monsters" have been announced with a second season for "The Watcher," which is another disturbing thriller series on Netflix that was launched in mid-October.

Bela Bajaria, head of Global TV at Netflix, said in a statement that audiences "can't take their eyes off 'Monster' and 'The Watcher.'" Bajaria noted that the creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" along with Eric Newman on "The Watcher" are "masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world."

The renewal for "Monster" was not surprising after Netflix said it reached "record-breaking" viewing numbers, including "The Watcher."

Jeffrey Dahmer Series 'Monster' Viewership on Netflix

The "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" series was considered to be one of Netflix's biggest ratings hits in its English language section,

It was reported that "Monster" garnered more than 1.35 billion hours in audience views in its first month alone. It was only beaten to the record by "Stranger Things."

Fans are already speculating that the next season could center on either Ted Bundy or John Wayne Gacy. The show will turn to another character and timeline each season, which is the same as the "American Crime Story" series.

Jeffrey Dahmer is known to be an American serial killer and sex offender who killed 17 men and boys. Despite its success, many had criticized the Netflix series, including criticisms from the LGBTQ+ community, family members of Dahmer's victims, and members of the public.

Jeffrey Dahmer 'Monster' Criticisms

The "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" has seen backlash for reopening the trauma of Dahmer's crimes for victims' families and entire communities. Its very existence and popularity had turned off a lot of people.

There were speculations that the series has made Jeffrey Dahmer a "pop culture celebrity" once again. There were also memorabilia sales for Halloween costumes.

According to Vulture's TV review, the series creators should have focused primarily on the people affected by the serial killer rather than the "cannibalistic monster and his atrocities."

It added that friends and families of Tony Hughes and Dahmer's other victims needed to witness the moment and "be traumatized or retraumatized" by the show.

Social media users have also criticized the renewal of the Netflix series with additional two seasons. A Twitter user called Netflix's decision "despicable." Another claimed that the video streaming platform was "profiting" off victims.

Another tweeted to stop "making shows that glorify serial killers."

"You are adding to the violence and sadistic behavior [sic]," the user added. According to the "Monster's" synopsis, the Netflix series will highlight the "as-yet untold stories of Dahmer's victims."
