Roger Sexton, who was on the sixth season of the reality TV show, "Survivor: The Amazon," has died. He was 76.

Sexton's obituary page said he passed away on October 26 and he was surrounded by his family in Walla Walla, Washington at the time of his death.

On the 2002 season of Survivor, which was filmed in the Amazon in Brazil, Sexton was the seventh person to be voted out, Yahoo reported. His obituary said he was a nature lover who enjoyed being outside.

"Confidence, discipline, and determination to succeed were all vital components to Roger's character," his obituary noted.

"However, the other more challenging aspects of his character eventually prevailed, leading to his eventual demise [on Survivor], but provided lasting memories of the exacerbating force that was Roger," it added.

Roger Sexton of the 'Survivor: The Amazon'

Roger Sexton, a Tambaqui Tribe member in the iconic reality competition series, quickly rose as a team leader. Sexton was a former U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served during the Vietnam War. However, after 21 days of surviving in the Amazon, he was eliminated after the other team persuaded members of his own squad to turn on him.

"Survivor: The Amazon" premiered in 2003, and the show is still going strong after nearly 20 years. The series was at its peak of popularity from 2000 through 2006, ranking among the top 10 most-watched programs in the U.S.

Despite not being as well-liked as it once was, the show is currently in its 43rd season and continues to draw a substantial audience. The Survivor used to change locations usually on a season-to-season basis, with a few repeats. However, it has remained filming in the Mamanuca Islands of Fiji since Season 33 in 2016.

The show has filmed in many countries across North America, Asia, Oceania, South America, and Africa before relocating to Fiji. According to Giant Freakin Robot, there have now been 12 Survivor contestants who have died following Roger Sexton's passing.

Roger Sexton Cause of Death

According to his obituary, Roger Sexton died after a "valiant and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia." It is a disease that develops when the brain has an excess of a protein called alpha-synuclein which affects thinking, moving, behaving, and feeling.

His family found solace in the fact that "Roger was finally able to find peace."  After getting married to Diane Rodrick in 1968, he went straight to the California Polytechnic Institute in San Luis Obispo and got a degree in construction management in 1971.

According to Distractify, one of Roger and Diane's three daughters died of viral pneumonia in 1992. When he was not taking care of his kids, establishing a successful career, or being a devoted husband, Roger Sexton enjoyed "backpacking, skiing, and riding the dusty trails of Southern California on his mountain bike."
