According to Bethanie Glover, a University of Virginia spokeswoman, the shooting and inquiry are "still extremely active," and students should remain in place. She stated that she did not have any other information at this time.

"I have homework to do but I literally cannot focus like what is happening right now," said UVa student Zyahna Bryant, who is most known for her high school campaign to remove Confederate symbols in Charlottesville.

The Daily Progress reported that the incident occurred behind the University of Virginia marching band practice facility. As the band practiced for its upcoming half-time show last week, you could hear Broadway show tunes.

In the fall, students and locals like riding their bikes by the sight. The band was just preparing the theme tune from "Ghostbusters" for UVa's Halloween weekend game versus Miami.

However, Sunday is gloomy that night

Cecelia Cain, the student body president, said she was inside at 11:30 p.m., listening to a police scanner. She and others are "very frightened out," she said.

Everyone on Grounds shared this sentiment.

"They have us locked down right now. I haven't been able to go anywhere," said Eva Surovell, editor of the Cavalier Daily.
