As Brazil continues its World Cup campaign, the country's most legendary and iconic soccer player, Pele, is in a battle of his own. He is in a hospital for lung infection.

Pele is currently being treated at the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in Brazil. In a statement, the hospital said the three-time World Cup champion "continues to evolve with progressive improvement of his general condition, especially the respiratory infection."

According to CNN, the hospital stated that the soccer legend remains in a common room but remains stable and conscious, and no new complications have been discovered.

The Brazilian legend was hospitalized last week following a respiratory infection, which happened after Pele was infected with COVID-19.

Pele is also currently battling cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. While he has already been vaccinated against COVID-19, his cancer medication made him more fragile. This led to him getting a lung infection. His daughters confirmed that he is currently not at risk and that he is not in the ICU.

Pele himself took to social media to assure fans that he remains strong and still has a lot of hope that he will get better. He then urged everyone to support Brazil in the World Cup.

Yahoo! Sports reported that there had been erroneous news that the condition of the man considered "O Rei do Futebol," or "King of Football," is getting worse, and his family is pushing back against those rumors.

Brazil Players Dedicate Win to Pele

In typical Brazilian fashion, Brazil, led by superstar Neymar, dominated their latest World Cup game. It was the Round of 16, and they took on the surprising South Koreans in a one-sided 4-1 demolition.

However, when the match ended, all members of the Brazil team got together and pulled out a banner with a single word and an image of one person. That word read "Pelé!"

Brazil dedicated their victory to the struggling soccer legend as he battled lung infection and cancer. Pele showed his love in return by urging fans to support Brazil.

Meanwhile, Brazil head coach Tite also sent Pele some love as he battled his health problems. "Get well soon, Pelé, get well soon," the coach said. "All of us here are sending you our love."

Brazil Fans Hold Banners in Support of Pele

It was not just the players who offered their tributes to the Brazilian legend, but also the fans. According to the Business Mirror, Seleçao fans came in with images and banners of the soccer legend and flooded Stadium 974 in Qatar with Pele.

In support of Pele, Brazil fans opened a large banner with his image every 10th minute of the half. The number 10 is Pele's jersey number. Fans also chanted Pele as the Brazilians demolished the South Koreans in their one-sided victory. Brazil advances to the quarterfinals and will be facing Croatia next.
