An Indiana man was arrested following the murder of a 3-month-old infant in Fulton County this past summer. Authorities were dispatched in July to the area of 3000 South County Road 1075 East after a report of a baby not breathing.

Officials attempted to revive the infant, Wrensley Swihart, but the baby was declared dead at the scene, prompting an investigation.

After the investigation was forwarded to the Fulton County Prosecutor's Office, charges were filed against Darren Scott Corbett, 32, of North Liberty. An arrest warrant was also issued in connection with Swihart's murder.

WNDU reported that Fulton County police arrested Corbett on Saturday. The Walkerton Police Department and Marshall County Sheriff's Office helped capture the Indiana man, who was identified as the boyfriend of the baby's mother.

Indiana Man Tells What Happened but Did Not Explain What Caused the Brain Bleed

Darren Scott Corbett informed responding officers that he and the child's mother had returned home from their jobs in Warsaw around 10:30 p.m. on July 16. He added that after they got home, everyone went to bed together.

When the victim woke up after midnight, Corbett fed and cleaned the baby before returning to bed. According to ABC 57, Corbett claimed he first noticed the bruises on the victim's mouth on Wednesday or Thursday of that week, but he could not confirm this when questioned by deputies.

Brain bleed contributed to the victim's death, according to an autopsy performed on July 18. According to reports, there was a delay in the final report because the victim had had cranial surgery in the past.

Deputies spoke again with Corbett on July 19, and the Indiana man provided more detail about the night before the victim died. However, reports said Corbett did not explain how the brain bleed could have happened when asked about the initial autopsy findings.

The Indiana man reportedly denied that any accident caused the bleeding. However, he noted that after the surgery, the infant did not wear his helmet as much as they were told he should because the helmet made the infant sweat.

Indiana Man and Victim Tested Positive for Meth

The Indiana Department of Child Services had Darren Scott Corbett and the baby's mother take drug tests as part of their inquiry. According to accounts, Corbett tested positive for amphetamines, methamphetamines, and THC, and the victim's mom had a positive THC test.

The autopsy results, completed on December 2, revealed that the infant had tested positive for both amphetamine and methamphetamine. Dr. Scott Wagoner from Northeast Indiana Forensic Center performed an autopsy as part of the inquiry.

He recently turned in his final report, which said that blunt force trauma to the head was the baby's cause of death and was ruled a homicide, according to Yahoo. Fulton County Prosecutor's Office received the investigation's findings from the sheriff's office.

As a result, the Indiana man has been charged with murder, aggravated battery resulting in death, and neglect of a dependent resulting in death. He is being held in the Fulton County Detention Center without a bond.
