Amanda Longacre's crown has been taken away because she's turning 25 in October.

Longacre was originally crowned Miss Wilmington, which comes with a crown, scholarship money, a year's contract as Miss Delaware and a shot at participating in Miss America in Atlantic City in September.

Contestants must be between the ages of 17 to 24, and Longacre, who turns 25 a month later, was seen as too old, according to USA Today.

Instead, Brittany Lewis, who is also 24, has been named the new Miss Delaware.

The organization made a comment about Longacre being disqualified because of her age, and then her pictures were taken down from the website.

"I feel like I'm being erased," Longacre said.

Lewis was told not to comment on the disqualification because of "the possibility of pending litigation."

While Lewis beamed and was excited about being crowned, Longacre fought back tears.

"I'm just heartsick. I'm just really heartbroken," she said. "And it was verified with a director that I was eligible to compete, as long as I was 24 at the Miss America pageant."

She competed at local and state level, and it was notarized. She said no one ever said anything about it, even though she never hid her age from them.

When she found out that she had to forfeit the crown, she had already put her studies on hold, as she was expected to take a year off to be Miss Delaware. She was working with designer Tony Bowls to create the perfect dress for the contest.

"I had already gotten my headshots done and met with a vocal coach and met with my social media sources and everyone was so excited," she said.

Longacre feels humiliated, and she feels she did nothing wrong.

Her lawyer, Mark Billion, said her financial losses may be about $10,000 and said he thinks a breach of contract has occurred.

"If everyone agreed these were the rules and Amanda spent all this time and money -- and she's not going back to school because they told her she was Miss Delaware -- you just feel bad all the way around," he said. "What's flabbergasting is that there are so many things they could have done that would have led to a far better outcome. She competed and did all this work and we feel she's deserving of more than what she's getting."
