The Simpson Foundation is making a documentary about Rick Simpson's medical journey. The documentary will focus on Rick Simpson's medical condition and the difficulties he faced in the 1990s to create what is now known as "Rick Simpson Oil" or "RSO."

"Creating a crowd funding campaign for a film requires great effort. This new film will give the first glimpse inside Rick's cancer battle, how he overcame it and helped others do the same through natural ways," Andreas Larson, Chief Financial Officer of the Simpson Foundation, says.

The upcoming film follows Rick's 2008 documentary.

Rick released a documentary entitled "Run from the Cure" in 2008, which detailed his efforts to treat his medical condition with hemp oil. Over time, he discovered how this oil's high tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content helped treat cancer and other diseases.

It also depicted Rick's hardships in his effort to promote the use of hemp oil among other patients. The documentary covered the controversial Rick Simpson trial held on September 10, 2007, interviews with Rick's supporters at the Supreme Court of Canada, and an interview with a person whose illness was treated entirely.

Rick's journey with treatment

The documentary will provide a fresh perspective on Rick's life in 1997 when he was a hospital engineer entrusted with working on asbestos-covered pipes in the boiler room. Due to poor ventilation and hazardous gases in the area, he passed out and fell down the ladder, requiring him to be rushed to the emergency room.

The accident led to tinnitus and dizziness, and no prescribed treatment appeared helpful. To alleviate his ailment and return to everyday life, Rick began taking medical marijuana, which, to his surprise, gave him the results he desired.

The video will also depict Rick's journey after he was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma in 2003 and how cannabis oil helped to cure him.

Rick had learned from a National Cancer Institute study that THC destroys cancer cells in mice. He then opted to treat his disease with full extract cannabis oil, applying it directly to the damaged area and wrapping it with a bandage. After many days, he removed the bandage to discover that the afflicted area had healed.

After regaining his health, he began producing the full-extract cannabis oil now known as Rick Simpson Oil or RSO. The film will also demonstrate how Rick has continued his goal to aid people with cancer since his discovery in 2003.

When and what to expect from the new documentary

"Rick's account provided crucial facts concerning natural remedies that are difficult to disregard. It also generates a healthy skepticism towards established medical institutions with their unique interests," Larson explains.

"Through this documentary, we wish to reveal the truth about cannabis to the world and assist millions of patients who could benefit from it," he adds.

Most of the funds raised for the new documentary come from crowd funding websites like Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and Patreon. The film is still in production today, and the Simpson Foundation team aims to release it sometime in 2023.
