The Ohio Attorney General's Office said Wednesday that Josh Sills, a player for the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles, had been indicted on rape charges in the state.

Sills, 25, was indicted by a grand jury that accused him of raping a woman in Guernsey County on December 2019 and holding her against her will. The indictment noted that Sills is facing felony charges of kidnapping and rape, CNN reported.

On February 12, Philadelphia Eagles will face the Kansas City Chiefs at the Super Bowl. However, whether Sills will appear on the team's roster for the game is still unknown.

The Ohio Attorney General's Office said the alleged rape incident was immediately reported, and an investigation by the Guernsey County Sheriff's office was subsequently launched.

Josh Sills' Rape Case in Ohio

According to a police report obtained by ESPN, an officer was sent to an emergency room of the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge, Ohio, on December 5, 2019, to take a sexual assault report.

The woman who identified herself to police as the alleged victim said Josh Sills, a high school friend, drove her and her cousin to her cousin's place, where she was staying. After her cousin got out of the car, the NFL player reportedly forced her back into the truck and kissed her.

She said she repeatedly told Sills to stop, but he continued to the point he tried to remove her pants and kept touching her "down there." She also alleged that the NFL player forced her to have oral sex with him, and he grabbed her several times by the neck.

A nurse told the officer that the victim had bruises on the back of her throat, inner lip, and right ear. The victim also showed the officer a bruise on her left knee's back.

The 6-foot-6-inch guard was still a college student and a member of the West Virginia Mountaineers when he allegedly committed the crime in December 2019. Sills is set to appear in Guernsey County Common Pleas Court on February 16.

Philadelphia Eagles Releases Statement Regarding Josh Sills' Rape Charges

Philadelphia Eagles' senior vice president of communications Bob Lange told NPR that the team is aware of the case.

"We have been in communication with the league office and are in the process of gathering more information. We have no further comment at this time," Lange noted.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, the Eagles said they have already "been in communication with the league office and are in the process of gathering more information."

Sills, a native of Sarahsville, Ohio, signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent last April. He transferred to Oklahoma State in 2020 after attending West Virginia from 2016 to 2019.

As a member of the Eagles' special teams unit, Sills played in only four plays during Week 5's game against the Arizona Cardinals. According to Philadelphia's depth chart, he is the team's second-string right guard behind Isaac Seumalo.

JSills, who was not on the Philadelphia Eagles' active roster for their first two playoff games, was placed on the commissioner's exempt list by the NFL on Wednesday, according to New York Times.

He will not be able to participate in team activities like workouts and games and will not be allowed to accompany the squad on any trips.
