The Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch release date is just around the corner, and new reports say it will come in five different colors.

"The Galaxy Gear will initially ship in four color options around week 39 - white, orange, gray, and black - though Samsung will be putting catchy names to those colors similar to how they've named their smartphone colors, names that we aren't aware of just yet. Then, a week later, Samsung will start shipping a White Gold color variant of the smartwatch, a variant that might or might not be exclusive to specific regions / carriers," writes SamMobile.

Those dates are in line with what we've heard so far about the debut of the wrist-mounted smartphone accessory. The four original colors should be available the last week of September, when the Galaxy Gear ships, and the white gold option should arrive the first week of October.

Of course, the Gear itself will be unveiled earlier than that, most like Sept. 4 at Samsung's Unpacked event, where the company is also supposed to reveal the new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 smartphone/tablet hybrid just before the IFA Berlin tech convention.

There still aren't concrete specs on the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, but rumors say it features a 2.5-inch square OLED display, a 1.5GHz dual-core Exynos 4214 processor with a Mali-400 GPU, speakers, a camera built into the wrist strap and run Android 4.1 or 4.2.

The Galaxy Gear won't be able to make phone calls on its own, but it will connect to other Galaxy devices, allowing hands-free calling through a phone in a pocket or purse.
