The 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees have been announced, which include some very deserving names like Willie Nelson.

According to Variety, the country music legend will be inducted into the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, together with George Michael, Sheryl Crow, Kate Bush, Rage Against the Machine, Missy Elliott, and The Spinners.

These musicians were all voted in by over 1,000 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. Another six performers were also announced Wednesday, and they were chosen by a select Hall of Fame committee to be inducted along with Nelson and the six other big names.

The committee chose three for the "musical excellence" category: singer Chaka Khan, instrumentalist-producer Al Kooper, and lyricist Bernie Taupin.

For the "musical influence" category, the committee chose rock pioneer Link Wray and hip-hop originator DJ Kool Herc. Finally, they picked "Soul Train" TV host Don Cornelius to receive the annual Ahmet Ertegun Award.

All 13 honorees will be part of an induction ceremony and concert scheduled for November 3 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. So far, a media partner has yet to be announced.

The Hall of Fame's media partnership with HBO has already expired. It is expected to be one of the biggest nights in music.

2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees Are Diverse

President and CEO of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Joel Peresman stated just before the 2023 inductees were announced: "When you can go from Link Wray, who was one of the early influencers, to Missy Elliott and Kate Bush and The Spinners and Rage Against the Machine and Willie Nelson, you have a very diverse body of work. What we are always trying to show is that rock 'n' roll is a big tent, and a lot of people belong."

With Missy Elliot, she becomes the first female rapper to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, CBS News reported.

She was previously inducted into the Songwriter Hall of Fame and won four Grammy Awards. When she was announced, she was described as "a true pathbreaker in a male-dominated genre."

As for George Michael, the Hall of Fame lauded him for "paving the way for a generation of proud LGBTQIA+ artists," while Willie Nelson, who was responsible for some of country music's biggest hits, was described as an "American institution."

2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Snubs

As the inductees for this year were announced, Billboard reported a few snubs and surprises.

While The Spinners, Rage Against the Machine, Missy Elliott, and George Michael were pleasant surprises to be inducted, it was pointed out that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation snubbed other acts that were also deserving.

These snubs include The White Stripes, Iron Maiden, Soundgarden, and A Tribe Called Quest.
