The island chain is not only known for its stunning beaches and majestic diving spots but is also a great place to hike, explore a few historical sites, or go partying. For US citizens, there is no visa required to go here, like Puerto Rico, since it is still part of the United States.

5 Places to Visit While in the US Virgin Islands

There are plenty of things to do on these islands, with St Thomas being known for its crystal-clear blue waters and St. John for hiking and snorkeling.

According to Lonely Planet, St. Croix is known to be a great diving spot and its rum factories. Here are five places from these three islands that you might want to check out when you visit the US Virgin Islands.

Virgin Islands National Park

The US Park Service runs the Virgin Islands National Park in St. John, covering around two-thirds of the island. It is a mix of tropical forests, hiking trails, and secluded bays with white sand beaches. There are also plenty of historical sites to visit in the area and some beautiful coral reefs.

Buck Island

Located near the main island of St. Croix, this federally protected island is considered a marine sanctuary filled with vibrant reefs. Scuba diving and exploring the coral reefs are among the things you can do in St. Croix.

Magens Bay

Often touted as the most well-known beach in the US Virgin Islands, Magens Bay is usually used in travel brochures to lure tourists to St. Thomas. It is a must-go beach with a mile-long stretch of white sand. It is a great place to relax, unwind, and swim.

Honeymoon Beach

There is a "fourth" main island in the US Virgin Islands, called Water Island. Here, you can find one of the US territory's most popular beaches, Honeymoon Beach, which, as the name suggests, is where many people spend their honeymoon vacations. According to Travel Lemming, it also has volleyball courts, water sports rentals, and a lively beach bar.

Blackbeard's Castle

It is an old military watchtower built by the Danish in 1679 to protect the harbor of Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas Island. It still stands and would be a great spot for history buffs who love the colonial era.
