The PlayStation 4 is breaking sales records even before its official release.

Just a few days after Sony revealed the official release date of its newest flagship console, another revelation is making headlines. A report by VideoGamer.com revealed that the PS4 has already garnered more than one million pre-orders - bigger than when the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 were released.

"We're not disclosing the exact number [of PS4 units] that we'll have on day one...Clearly we're working hard to satisfy a lot of countries. We mentioned 32 countries last night," Sony Computer Entertainment UK chief Fergal Gara told the gaming news website. "The one comment I'll make about the pre-order number is first of all, it's greater than a million, and secondly, the UK represents a very healthy slug of that. We're undeniably seeing a sea change."

Pre-orders have been available on a number of online stores already, including Amazon and now even Walmart. In a press release by the online store published on Joystiq.com, Walmart revealed that it will now allow pre-orders nationwide starting August 24.

It's not too late to be among the first to play the long-anticipated Microsoft Xbox® One and Sony PlayStation® 4. Starting, Saturday, August 24, customers can visit Walmart stores nationwide to pre-order the console of their choice. Customers are encouraged to secure the pre-order early as quantities are limited.

"I'm very very pleased with it, so we will be looking at sell outs in areas. We're doing everything we can to secure every last unit ... so we can do our very best to meet the demand as it stands for day one and clearly chasing there after," Gara also told VideoGamer.com.

The new Sony gaming console is also packed with a number of features that could have affected the sales outcome so far. According to PC Advisor, the PS4 will include a PlayStation App that will allow specific smartphones and tablets to be a second screen. It will also allow backward compatibility that will allow gamers to play their favorite PS3 games in the console, while they wait for the titles to be released to the PS4.

Not to fret though, Sony has made sure to have enough game titles exclusive to the console when it arrives in November.

Titles will include:

  • The Order: 1886
  • Killzone: Shadowfall
  • Infamous 3
  • Drive Club
  • Knack

The Sony PlayStation 4 will be officially hit stores on November 15 for North America, and November 29 for Europe.
