Model Gigi Hadid was recently arrested in the Cayman Islands for alleged marijuana possession, according to authorities, according to CBS News.

The arrest took place on July 10 when Hadid, also known as Jelena Noura Hadid, and her friend Leah Nicole McCarthy were detained by the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control for the importation of marijuana and paraphernalia.

The arrest occurred after a search of their luggage, during which a small amount of marijuana was discovered.

Hadid's representative stated that the 28-year-old model was carrying marijuana legally purchased in New York City with a medical license.

The representative also noted that medical use of marijuana has been legal in Grand Cayman since 2017.

The representative confirmed that Hadid's record remains clear, and she was able to continue enjoying her time on the island.

The arrest took place at Owen Roberts International Airport, and both Hadid and McCarthy were released on bail.

They pleaded guilty and were fined approximately $1,200, but no conviction was recorded, as reported by border authorities.

All Is Well with Gigi Hadid in the Cayman Islands

Gigi Hadid subtly addressed the recent incident on Instagram Monday, the Independent noted.

She shared an album of photos and videos that appeared to have been taken during her vacation. The caption accompanying the post read, "All's well that ends well."

Among the content shared, one video featured Hadid and a friend relaxing on sun loungers, facing the ocean.

In the video, Hadid turned around and smiled at the camera. Another picture showcased the contents of her purse, including colorful pieces of jewelry.

This post followed a series of other Instagram photos shared by Hadid during her vacation. In a previous album, she posed in a bikini while seated on a sun lounger, proudly displaying what seemed to be a dragon tattoo near her thigh.

The caption for those photos was "Mornin!" accompanied by a dragon emoji.

Additionally, on July 18, Hadid posted a photo to her Instagram Stories, where she and two friends were captured posing for a mirror selfie during their vacation.

Marijuana Laws on Cayman Island

Gigi Hadid's recent arrest in the Cayman Islands for alleged marijuana possession highlights the strict regulations surrounding cannabis in the country.

According to a 2019 fact sheet by the National Drug Council of the Cayman Islands, it is illegal to import or export cannabis in any form across the country's border, regardless of its legal status in other jurisdictions. This includes both recreational and medical cannabis products, per USA TODAY.

However, there are exceptions for the therapeutic and medical use of cannabis extracts and traces when prescribed by a licensed doctor within the Cayman Islands.

This suggests that there may be some flexibility regarding medical marijuana use within the country's legal framework.

Gigi Hadid's case is part of a broader trend where notable individuals have been involved in incidents related to traveling with marijuana.
