A special prosecutor in the Dominican Republic is currently conducting a second formal investigation into allegations against Tampa Bay Rays' shortstop, Wander Franco, involving a relationship with a minor.

This marks the third accusation against the 22-year-old athlete, as reported by sources familiar with the matter, according to ESPN.

The initial complaint against Franco was lodged on July 17, after which another young woman came forward to the specialized prosecutor's office for minors, asserting that she had a relationship with Franco while she was still a minor.

The third girl implicated in this situation has not yet communicated with authorities, but investigators are actively probing her alleged connection to Franco.

Officials from the division responsible for investigating crimes against children in the Dominican Republic are seeking to speak with Franco in the upcoming weeks to gather more information regarding the allegations.

It is worth noting that the age of consent in the Dominican Republic is 18, and engaging in a sexual relationship with a minor under that age can result in criminal charges for individuals over 18.

Major League Baseball responded to the situation, placing Franco, an All-Star player, on paid administrative leave as of August 22.

This measure was implemented while the league conducted its investigation into the allegations.

Franco last played on August 12, with the league initiating its investigation the following day. He was placed on the restricted list from August 13 to 21.

Wander Franco Denies Allegations

In an Instagram Live session from the Rays' clubhouse on August 13, Wander Franco seemed to address and challenge the accusations before the wide circulation of allegations on social media.

Speaking in Spanish during the social media video, Franco stated, "They say that I'm in public with a little girl, that I'm running around with a minor. People don't know what to do with their time. They don't know what they're talking about," per NY Post.

"That's why I prefer to be on my side and not get involved with anybody ... because people gossip and talk smack," Franco added.

Since that Instagram Live session, Franco has not provided any further commentary on the situation.

Currently on administrative leave, categorized as a non-disciplinary measure, Franco still receives his $2 million salary and accrues service time, Tampa Bay Times noted.

Tampa Bay Rays Take Down Wander Franco's Ads and Merchandise

Amid the ongoing allegations, the Tampa Bay Rays have taken steps to remove images of Wander Franco from various areas within Tropicana Field, Fox News reported.

Specifically, the banner of Franco displayed in the rotunda has been replaced by that of Yandy Diaz.

Similarly, the elevator wrap now features Pete Fairbanks. Additionally, the signage at the nearby sports bar, Ferg's, which featured Franco, has been taken down.

Furthermore, the Rays have removed all commercials featuring Franco by the team and broadcaster Bally Sports.

Notably, Franco's merchandise is no longer available for purchase at the Rays' team store within Tropicana Field.

The Rays released a statement expressing their support for Major League Baseball's decision to place Franco on administrative leave.

The team affirmed its commitment to upholding high standards of integrity both on and off the field.

They thanked their fans and supporters for their understanding and patience during this process, indicating that they will provide no further comments until MLB concludes its investigation.
