Disney actress and singer, Zendaya Coleman went from excited and overjoyed to bullied and humiliated all in the course of a week.

Talk about a major bummer.

Last week, it was reported that the 17-year-old actress would play the late and great singer Aaliyah in a Lifetime biopic.

Coleman was of course overjoyed at getting cast especially since she claims to be a big Aaliyah fan.

"I'm just a 17 year old girl who got cast to play one of her biggest inspirations ‪#positive," Coleman tweeted regarding the news.

Even Lifetime's casting director, Twinkie Byrd, chimed in on the excitement of Zendaya taking on the legendary role.

"Zendaya embodies everything you want in an actress to play Aaliyah. She is a poised, professional, STRONG actress," Byrd told the YBF. "A triple-threat actor, singer, dancer. She LOVES AALIYAH and will do a wonderful job!"

Despite the joy that Lifetime and Zendaya both shared for the movie, Aaliyah's fans and family members weren't too pleased about the news.

Aaliyah fans created a petition to have the movie stopped, and Aaliyah's family members also went public to say that Lifetime did not consult with them before making movie and that they felt the movie would be better suited for the big screen and not for the small screen.

It's safe to say that the controversy and backlash surrounding the film eventually got to Zendaya because no more than a week after the announcement, she dropped out of the film.

"I felt like something with the production [wasn't] all the way there, the project wasn't all the way there," she said. "If I'm going to do something for someone I care about so much, I have to do it the right way.

"I just felt that because I love her, and because I respected her so much as an artist, I don't want to do anything that's half or anything that's less for her," Coleman said.

For now, the Lifetime Aaliyah movie has reportedly been put on hold, and there's been no news yet on who will take Zendaya Coleman's place.
