In a thrilling showdown against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Sunday, Iowa Hawkeyes' standout guard Caitlin Clark etched her name in history as the NCAA Division-I all-time leading scorer in basketball, surpassing the legendary "Pistol" Pete Maravich.

Clark, 22, entered the game needing 18 points to surpass Maravich's record of 3,667 points.

She achieved this milestone with a pair of free throws in the final second of the first half, securing her place as the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division-I basketball, encompassing both male and female athletes, according to CNN.

Caitlin Clark downplayed her awareness of the record during the game, stating, "Not really, but then when they announce it and everybody screams, that's when I knew."

In a stellar performance, Clark contributed 35 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds, leading No. 6 Iowa to a 93-83 victory over No. 2 Ohio State. The win propelled Clark's career total to an impressive 3,685 points.

Previous Records and Achievements

This season has been marked by numerous records for Iowa Hawkeyes' Caitlin Clark, including setting the NCAA women's scoring record on February 15 with a career-high 49 points against Michigan.

She surpassed the previous record held by Kelsey Plum, ending her college career in 2017 with 3,527 points, per ESPN.

The remarkable achievements continued as Clark set records for both scoring and assists, reaching 3,000 points on December 6 and achieving 1,000 career assists on February 11.

On February 28, in a game against Minnesota, Clark surpassed Lynette Woodard's major-college women's scoring record.

Woodard, who played from 1977 to 1981 when women's college sports were governed by the AIAW, held the previous record with 3,649 points. Clark's 33-point performance in the Minnesota game also marked her 17th career triple-double.

Beyond scoring, Caitlin Clark set additional records, including hitting eight 3-pointers in a game, totaling 156 for the season, and achieving the most triple-doubles with at least 30 points in Division I history, CNBC noted.

Emotional Senior Day

Clark, a West Des Moines native, made the announcement on Thursday that she would not use the COVID-19 waiver for a fifth season at Iowa Hawkeyes, opting to enter the 2024 WNBA draft.

The senior day celebration became even more poignant as fans gathered for what might be Clark's last home game.

Notable figures, including former UConn and Minnesota Lynx star Maya Moore, were present at the game.

Moore, who was Clark's childhood favorite player, added a special touch to the celebratory atmosphere. Clark expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support.

"I'm just very thankful for all these people that are going to stick around and support us and have supported us over the course of my four years," Moore said.

Clark's decision to enter the WNBA draft adds another layer to her illustrious college career.

The basketball world eagerly awaits to witness the next chapter in NCAA Division-I all-time leading scorer Caitlin Clark's journey as she transitions to the professional stage.

However, before that, Clark still has business to take care of. Lowa is among the favorites in the College Women's games odds to win the national championship, and she would like nothing more than to end her dream college career holding up the trophy.
