As Floyd Mayweather Jr. reportedly leans towards facing Marcos Maidana in a rematch on Sept. 13, there is also growing speculation that the pound-for-pound king will then face Manny Pacquiao in May 2015.

In an interview with LaTen Media, Mayweather said that he will return to the ring in September against Maidana and added that he has "a big surprise" for fight fans in May 2015.

"Sept. 13, back to business, Marcos Maidana-Floyd Mayweather, part II," Mayweather said. "And then in May, I'm fighting in May, and I'll have a big surprise for ya'll."

Mayweather did not give any hint on the "big surprise" that he was talking about, but it created speculation that he might consider facing Pacquiao in a super fight next year.

Fight fans have been campaigning for the mega-fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao over the past several years, but both fighters' camps remain far from reaching an agreement.

Previous reports indicated that the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight almost happened in 2009 when Mayweather's camp agreed to a 50-50 split on fight purse, but Pacquiao's camp reportedly turned down the offer because of a clause requiring the Filipino boxing icon to undergo strict drug testing.

Pacquiao has been open about undergoing drug testing over the past three years, but Mayweather's camp is now unwilling to agree to a 50-50 financial split because they feel that their fighter should be given the lion's share in the deal.

Mayweather has also expressed no interest in doing business with Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum, who recently inked a fresh two-year deal with Pacquiao.

Boxing analysts are convinced that Pacquiao's contract extension with Top Rank Promotions killed the possibility of staging the big-money fight.

Jeff Mayweather, Floyd's uncle and a former prize fighter, said in an interview with On The Ropes Boxing Radio that the fight can still happen, but it will be a hard fight to make, considering the animosity between Mayweather and Arum.

"It's not gonna be easy, it's gonna be a lot of ramifications and a lot of red tape and a whole lot of negotiations for that fight to even take place," Jeff Mayweather said. "Unfortunately Bob and Floyd just don't get along and Floyd don't want to do business with him. If that doesn't change, the fight won't happen."
